| I've always been able to draw and paint. In kindergarten the teacher gave us "pre-cut" butterflies which we were to decorate. Mine became a landscape of a farm.
I've always felt a tension between doing what I like (drawing and painting) and what I need to do to make a living. I've tried to make time for art and have tried to continue to learn different methods and develop a style. Right now, this means mostly watercolors (primarily landscapes).
In my mind, a good painting (and a good experience "painting") evokes an emotion of a distinct time, place and feeling. The finished painting should evoke a similar response from the viewer, and it does so when the painting has some personal link. I think I've painted a few good paintings and some really great paintings (in my opinion). My best work is yet to come (I think), with the exception of a bronze sculpture I made in memory of my mom (Pauline) in 1982. That's my best work ever.
